Favorite Two Past song: Uptown Funk

Best memory with the group: Two Past's 20th anniversary weekend, which also happened to be my 20th birthday, and the first time I had a solo. I loved every single minute. Getting to hear stories and talk to the alumni was amazing. It truly felt like a family reunion. The TPL was everywhere!

#1 thing you want Two Past to do before you graduate: Make an album!

How was going abroad to Vienna and working in New Mexico this summer?

I'm pretty sure that I have lived out a suitcase for the past 6 months. Going abroad to Vienna, Austria was, as cheesy as it sounds, life changing. I didn't know a lick of German going there, but that didn't stop me from sipping on Wiener Melanges and chowing down on as many pastries and cakes as I could get my hands on (seriously I think I tried one of everything). The best part of my whole trip was interning at the Vienna State Opera. I got to learn the ins and outs of the number one repertory opera house in the world, meet and bump into opera celebrities, attend the 2017 Opera Ball, and best of all see some of the most fantastic musicians and artists perform in operas.

Then it was on to Taos, NM to attend the Taos Opera Institute Summer Program! It was a month long program where we learned how to audition, performed various solo and ensemble repertoire, worked with vocal instructors and coaches from colleges across the country, and met with guest artists talking about everything from performance psychology to improvising. As much as Taos is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to, it was pretty hard to adjust to the altitude of 9,300 ft as a singer (let's just say I slept with a humidifier right next to my face). If you ever make it over there, you gotta try the green chile (or Christmas chile if you can't decide) and any other Mexican food you can get your hands on!!

What are you most looking forward to about music directing this year?

I am looking forward to the challenge that Music Director holds. I think it will help me look at music a different way and will ultimately make me a better a musician. It won't always be easy, but if there's anything I've learned from watching other music directors is that it sure as heck pays off when Two Past slays at a performance. I'm also looking forward to giving back to the group. Two Past Midnight has given me so many things and it gives me great joy to be able to use what I know to help the group. My hope is that all of the years that I've been studying music and the voice comes into play this semester when I'm music directing. I can't wait to start the semester and kill it at Christy's!!! Hope to see some of your faces at our concerts!!
